The Day I Blew Up The Blog

If you are a frequent visitor to the HowToCamGirl.com blog, you may notice some design changes...If you're new, I apologize for the "blah" look around here.

See what had happened was, I was playing around with Blogger's dynamic views templates...and I knew I should have backed up my template, just for good measure....and I didn't...(you can probably see where I'm going with this)

So, please bare with me over the next couple weeks as I get the blog restored back to all it's glory and prayerfully even better than it was before I blew it up. I appreciate your support and patience.

Is Webcam Modeling Worth Your Time?

Here is a simple formula to figure out how much you need to charge on a cam site, in order to earn the amount of money you want to make from webcam modeling.

how-much-money-do-webcam-models-make

First you have to set an income goal

$5,000 monthly  (account for taxes & expenses by adding about 20 %)
+ $1,000 taxes
___________
    $6,000

Next, determine how many hours you want to work.

  30 hours per week
x 4 weeks in a month  (3 weeks if you do not work during your "week off")
________________
 120 hours per month

Then, use this information to calculate your hourly rate.

$6,000 ÷ 120 hours = $50 per hour

Now that you have you target hourly rate of $50 per hour, you can use this number to figure how much you need to charge on your cam site. You will also need to know your "private chat/free chat ratio". If you don't know what that is, then go to the "Tracking Your Money" post where I explained what this is and how to find your private/free ratio. Basically this ratio tells you how much time you spend in private chat for every hour you are online, on average. For this example, I will use a 25% private/free ratio and 35% as the amount of commission the webcam model makes on the cam site.

If $50 is your hourly target and you maintain a 25% private/free ratio
Your per minute rate is $3.33

If you get 35% commission and you want to take home $3.33 per minute, you would need to charge $9.51 per minute.

How did I come up with that number? Remember your high school algebra you  thought you would never use...well yeah, guess what? Now you need it.

If 0.35x = $3.33 what is x?
This equation is asking $3.33 is 35% of what number?  To solve:

Multiply both sides of the equal sign by 100
35x = $333

Divide both sides of the equal sign by 35 to get the value of x
$333 ÷ 35 = $9.51
x = $9.51

RECAP

IF you work 30 hours per week AND
IF you maintain a 25% free/private ratio AND
IF your rate is $9.51 per minute AND
IF you earn 35% commission on your per minute rate...then you will earn $6,000 per month working as a webcam model.

Now keep in mind this is based solely on webcam modeling with a typical big box cam site. Some cam sites have paid groups chat, where each viewer pays a smaller rate, like $1.99 per minute. So then your focus would be to get enough members in your paid chat to equal $9.51 per minute for 15 minutes per hour.

If you do independent cam shows on the side or you are successful with selling clips, picture sets, panties and earning referral commissions, then this will free up time you have to spend earning money on regular cam sites. Again refer back to the "Tracking Your Money" post for more guidance with setting and reaching your income goals.

Inside the Mind of a Cam Site Customer

I discovered this article from a Google search for "best webcam girl". What is interesting about this piece is that it offers a glimpse into the psyche of a typical cam site user, even though it's actually a piece of marketing copy for the cam site Live Jasmin. It also address some of the frequently asked questions I receive about webcam modeling and being a webcam model, but from a customer's perspective.

Knowing what your potential customer is thinking (regardless of how you feel about it) allows you, as a webcam model, to be one step ahead of his game. Take time to read the following passage and some of the things men consider before making a purchase on a cam site. Then think of some ways you can use this knowledge to your advantage.

*Please note this article is a copy and paste, I did some quick editing but it still may contain spelling or grammatical errors.*

Curious Enough to Succeed...In Everything: Conscious Consistency

Webcam modeling advice for being a cam girl from Tacy Plush
Tacy Plush
Today's blog is based on a YouTube Video from our webcam modeling sister Ms. Tacy Plush (@TacyPlush). This is a message cam girls definitely need to hear. I've been following her Curious Enough to Succeed Vlog series for a while and her most recent post on "Conscious Consistency" was too on point. I had to share it with you.

This video comes perfectly in divine order on the heels of my last two blogs about focus and the importance of allowing yourself a break to rejuvenate. Here are some key points that Tacy touches on in her video that I know are imperative for cam models to understand.

Consistency - The results you have with your camming and in your life period, regardless of if said results are desirable or undesirable, are caused by your consistent, habitual, actions (or inactions). I wrote a short blog about consistency almost two years ago, you can see it here, "The Key to Unlocking Your Greatness"

Clarity - You must know, that you know, that you know, that you know. When I ask new or aspiring webcam models why they want to be a cam girl, the #1 answer is usually, "Oh well I need the money." I chuckle at this answer because it's like, how do you even know how much money you're going to make? This is not a regular job where you know from start that you'll get paid $10/hr. So there has to be another reason why, out of all the gigs in the world, you are choosing to do this. You must have clarity on this reason. Why do you want to be a webcam model (besides money) and what, specifically, do you want to get from this? This must be crystal clear in your mind. Your WHY and your WHAT will be the driving force for you to turn on that cam on days when you just don't "feel like it"

Commitment - Speaking of don't feel like it...one of the best definitions of commitment is, "continuing to take action towards something you said you would do, long after the moment in which you said it has passed." So for example, you made a commitment to yourself and your audience that you would cam 30 hours a week. Yet here it is the end of the week and you've barely clocked 15 hours. Now you have every excuse in the book as to why you didn't put in the other 15 hours. Guess what, those goals you said you had for yourself, don't give two flying rats behind about your excuses. You either live up to your commitment or you don't.
LOSERS MAKE EXCUSES, WINNERS MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Personal Accountability - Simply, this means that you fully acknowledge and accept that YOU are the creator of everything that occurs in your life. You refuse to blame any he, she, it, them, they, for the results that you have. It's not the cam site's fault, it's not your webcam's fault, it's not because of the weather, it's not because you don't have this, or need that. NO. It's because you, YOU, made a choice in the way you respond and that choice and response lead to a result. Right now, make the choice to eliminate blaming and that includes blaming yourself. The great thing about being personally accountable is that you realize that if the choice you made didn't bring about your desired result, you get to choose again.

Incubation - Like I said in yesterday's post, taking time to break, incubate, get away or just veg out, is an exercise of good self care. Taking time to reflect allows you body, mind, and spirit to catch up with each other and will give you greater clarity in your purpose and inspiration for your next steps. There's a difference between being straight up lazy and taking a pause. When you take a pause you do it with purpose and with the knowing that your break will bring out something that will benefit you when you return to working towards your target.

Integrity - Keeping your word. Especially, and most importantly your word to yourself. In the video, Tacy talks about how being consciously consistent helps you to show yourself that you are dependable and reliable and this is so very important. Think about it. How many times have you told yourself you were going to do something (eat right, exercise, get more sleep, create or edit a series of video, put in more hours on cam) and you didn't follow through on your promise to yourself? Every time you do that, you are teaching yourself that you can't rely on you...and why should anyone spend their hard earned money on someone who can't even depend on themselves?

This is really a jewel of a message and I thank and appreciate Tacy for sharing her thoughts and her journey with all of us who are Curious Enough to Succeed...In Everything.

You are NOT a Super (Cam) Model

A typical day for me includes researching cam modeling related news, answering e-mails from cam girls, writing blogs here on HowToCamGirl.com, working on my next e-mail marketing piece or video for YouTube, checking in with my followers on Twitter, creating new cam girl classroom lessons along with all the responsibilities of being a mom. Today, I forced myself to rest. After I sent my son to school, I went back to bed and slept until noon. When I woke up, my first inclination was to get to work on everything I had neglected to do. I felt guilty for being so "lazy". Then I remembered a video I posted a few weeks ago and knew that I needed to practice what I preach and RELAX.

Battling Burn Out: Cam Girl Edition

Taking a day for ourselves is part of good self care and an exercise of self love. As I highlighted in yesterday's blog, I'm just as much a multi-tasking junkie as many of you are and so I understand feeling like you should be doing more, and like you have to cram as much activity as possible into every hour of the day. Well, I'm here to tell you (and myself) that the "to do" list will still be there when you wake up. It's not going anywhere.  If our cups are empty, it will be impossible for us to perform at our optimal level and that is a lose-lose situation for everyone.

So to any other cam girls that are feeling like I was: achy, fatigued, irritable, overwhelmed, over-worked or just plain could use a day off. I'm encouraging you and giving you permission to take it. Writing this blog is about the most work I've done today and I'm okay with that because I already feel much more refreshed and my mind clutter is starting to clear. Who knows, maybe I'll take the rest of the week off....yeah right.

The Next Best Cam Site

Best Cam Site, Webcam Modeling advice, webcam for money

Today's blog is inspired by a post I read on fellow camgirl Caitlin's (@Scotty_Hottie_) blog earlier this morning. The "Shiny Object Syndrome" is common among new webcam models and entrepreneurs in general, myself included, and it usually goes something like this.... you join one cam site, you work it for a week, then you hear about another cam site that from MsLilyTits and she tells you it's all the rave, she's making all this money and so you join that one too, and three more while you're at it. Then you decide you want a clip store, so you set up a profile (or three) on Clips4Sale and two other adult video clip sites. Not to mention you also have a personal Facebook page, a cam girl Facebook page, a Twitter page, a MyPornProfile page, an ItsMyURLs page AND you're a member of StripperWeb, WeCamGirls and ExperienceProject.

Here's the lesson, if you chase too many rabbits, you catch none.

I'm all about multiple streams of income, this is after all the name of the game, more paychecks coming in that  there are days in the month. However, and this is a HUGE however, what so many webcam models fail to realize is that this doesn't mean creating more work for yourself! It means learning to work smarter, not  harder, and do more in less time. Every time you add a new site, you are depleting your focus and energy. Instead of doing one cam site at 100% with 100% focus, you're now trying to do 10 with 10% focus....and how's that working out for ya?

Now with that said, do I still support split-camming or simulcasting to different sites at one time? YES! I absolutely do, however, still you start with one cam site and you learn it inside and out and then add the next. Trying to work two cam sites when you are brand new to both is only going to result in confusion for you and your audience and a confused audience never buys!

For example, when I first started webcam modeling, I started on Naked.com and I only did Naked for a good almost four months, then I went to Rude. I pretty much abandoned Naked.com altogether after that because Rude was a much better deal (at least it was at that time). Then I learned how to split cam and I began split-camming on both because Naked paid weekly and Rude was every two weeks. Eventually I was simulcasting to Naked.com, Rude.com, and ImLive.com all at the same time and doing independent shows on the side. It was super intense and required that I be fully into what I was doing. I had to understand how each site worked, which site had a faster moving chat room, which site had bells or whistles to alert me someone was entering my chat, which site was more active at a certain time, I had to know exactly how to keep all three plates spinning. As a result, I could get online for three hours and pretty much guarantee that I would bring in $150 - $300 in those three hours AND I was getting a paycheck every few days...but I had to start with one site and build from there.

Start with ONE. ONLY ONE. One cam site, one clip store, one social media platform, one support community. Invest 100% of your time and energy on that and that only. Once you get that one set up and rolling on a predictable level (keyword: predictable, meaning  you know exactly how to keep this one plate spinning, ideally with little effort on your part) OR you decide it's not working for you and you scrap it, then and only then do you move on to something else. I know we all love to multi-tasking and thinking we can do more at one time, however what has been proven is that if you commit to focusing 100% on one thing at a time, you will end up with a far better quality result for your efforts.

"Your focus, needs more focus."

Cam Modeling for the Straight Male

Being a webcam model as a straight male can be quite the unnerving option for certain men. The fact is, regardless of your sexual preference, the overwhelming majority of live cam show customers are male, which means that you will be performing for gay/bi men far more often than not.

Long before I became an actual webcam model, I had primarily spent my time “in the business” recruiting models. It seems like in the ads that I would post, I would get just as many men responding to them as I would women, yet hardly ever had any of those men sign on to actually become a model compared to how many of the women would sign on. The deciding factor for the men who chose not to pursue it always seemed to revolve around the answer to similar versions of the same question.

“Do I have to perform for gay guys?”

My answer was always the same.

“No, you don’t HAVE to, but you’re not going to make any money if you don’t.”

And that’s the cold, hard truth. The idea of getting paid to perform on cam for horny women sure is a nice thought, but it’s just not realistic. In almost a year of being a model, myself, I can literally count on one hand how many times I’ve either been tipped or taken private by a female customer. Yes, it DOES happen, but it’s a very rare occurrence, and those times should definitely be enjoyed. But in reality, it’s primarily men who “get off” to experiences like the ones presented by cam models. It’s proven science that men are much more visually stimulated than women are, and that doesn’t change with homosexuality introduced to the equation.

So with that being said, straight males wanting to work as cam models have to be in the right mindset. You HAVE to think of it as what it is…a job. And the job requires you to put on a performance, regardless of who your audience is. The guys who will come into your room are all potential paying customers, and MANY of them love the fantasy of turning the straight guy out. So the fact that you’re heterosexual can absolutely play to your advantage. I’ve had customers that tell me they love the idea of being used and humiliated by a straight man – and I play to that. Some more prefer the challenge, attempting to convince you that they could pleasure you better than any woman ever could.

If you’re in the right mindset to do this, THESE are the exact situations you want to maximize your earnings.

Tease them…make them think that maybe, JUST MAYBE, there’s a glimmer of hope that you’d let them give you head, or whatever it is they’d like to do with you. Just because you’re telling them that doesn’t mean it’s true. Again, you’re a performer, and it’s all just part of the performance. That’s the biggest thing to keep in mind. Once you’ve been at it for a little while, you get more comfortable with it, and it becomes “natural.”

Another issue that comes up with straight males performing for gay men comes into play once you’ve got a customer in private/paid chat. Many of them will want to go cam 2 cam with you, which is HIGHLY recommended to ALWAYS accept. It’s proven that c2c paid sessions last longer than when just the model is on cam. It makes the customer feel as if you are really into it. Again, it may be a bit uncomfortable at first, but you get used to it, and don’t HAVE to actually sit there and stare at their cam the entire time. On Streamate, for example, the c2c window will open up with the customer’s cam in the smaller thumbnail window which is really hard to see unless you’re really close to your monitor. It has the option to switch it around, which you should probably at least take a peek so you can see the position they’re in and talk to them as if you’re really paying attention. I know this might sound rather shady to some, but again, it all comes down to the fact that this is a performance. Some straight guys may not be able to maintain an erection if they’re sitting there watching another guy stroking - and that’s okay. Do what you have to do to give the customer the show that they’re paying good money for. More often than not, if I’m on cam, I have lesbian porn running off to the side to help me stay hard. Just keep the sound low if you choose to do this – the customers WILL leave if they hear women moaning in the background.

Being a cam model as a straight male certainly isn’t for everyone. It’s understood that some people do have true homophobia, and just can’t handle the type of performance that is needed to be successful with a job like this. Unfortunately though, there just aren’t enough women out there willing to pay to watch a guy pleasure himself to make it worthwhile to ONLY perform for females.

But if you can keep an open mind and remember that it’s JUST a performance, and these people really are never going to be able to touch you, meet you in person, etc., being a cam model as a straight male can be very profitable. It’s all in your attitude towards it.

Cam Model Marketing Part 5

The final installment (I think it is at least, for now.) of the Cam Girl Marketing Series. In this video I share a few  basic tips for getting started with marketing on Twitter. There are hundreds of cam models using Twitter everyday and in this video you will learn how to make your profile stand out and also how marketing on Twitter ties into all the other marketing strategies I have discussed in the previous videos.

The most important thing here ladies is to TAKE ACTION. It's one thing to watch the videos and have an idea of what to do, it's completely different to have the experience of actually doing it. So if you're serious about wanting to make great money with webcam modeling, then you need to turn up the heat on your marketing! Implement the strategies I've shared with you and let me know if you need any assistance!

Cam Girl Tip: Tracking Your Money

One of the most important things when it comes to being a cam girl or being in business in general, is knowing exactly how much you're earning so that you know how close or far away you are from your desired income goal. Here are a few tips for tracking and increasing your earnings.

make money webcam modeling1.  Calculate your per hour rate.
When you sign on cam, note the time. After one hour has passed, pause, and take note of how much you earned in that hour. Some hours you may make nothing, while others you may be in and out of private chat and the tippers are making it rain. Regardless, just write down how much you make each hour you're online.

2. Calculate your free chat/paid chat ratio.
Here you are looking to see, out of one hour in free chat, how many minutes do you spend in paid chat, on average. So again, each hour, write down how many minutes you spent in paid chat during that hour. Let's say after 4 hours of camming, you clock a total 60 minutes of actual paid time. 60 minutes divided by 240 minutes equals 0.25. So that means you spend 25%, 15 minutes, of every hour in paid chat.

3. Calculate your average private time length
It's helpful if you're on a site that does this for you, some do. If you're not, you can do it manually. Write down how many private shows you do in a given hour and how long the session lasted. At the end of the hour take the # of minutes divide by the # of private shows you did that hour. So 20 minutes of private / 3 private sessions equals an average of about 7 minutes.

4. Check your timing
Note the time of day, and day of the week. Then you'll be able to look back to see if a specific day or time is especially dead or profitable. For example, if you serve a lot of military clients, you may notice a spike in your activity on the evening before, on and after, the 1st and the 15th, military paydays. You may even notice that one of those days is better than the other.

5. Check the client
Keep track of your regulars, your big spenders, your small spenders, your tippers only, etc. Keep track of those screen names. You may discover that even though "bigdickhasselhof" never takes you private, he contributes 60% of the tips you get each week. Or maybe "kingdingaling" only goes private for 5 minutes, but he does that with you 4 times a week, consistently.

So to recap, in your webcam modeling journal or notebook you will be writing down:
make money work as a webcam model
1. The Date & Time (Thursday, November 29th, 2012 at 3pm)

2. Your private show client(s) (JerseyMike)

3. How long each private session lasts. (JerseyMike 12 minutes)

4. Your free/paid chat ratio and average private session length ( 3pm - 4pm: 22 minutes 28 seconds; 37%).(22.28 mins / 7 sessions = 3.18 mins avg).

5. Your rate per hour (3pm - 4pm: $44.56 in private chat; $10 in tips)

6. Overall average rate per hour (3pm - 7pm: $113.50 / 4 hours = avg $28.38/hr)

7.  Overall average minutes per hour (3pm - 7pm: 45.25 minutes / 4 hours = 11.3 minutes avg per hour)

The longer and more consistently you track this information, the more reliable your numbers will be. Once you have all this information, you can adjust your pricing and timing accordingly. If you know you're doing 11 minutes of private time and $5 in tips per hour, average, then set your cost per minute based on your awareness of this information or you can keep all things as they are, but with this awareness, you now know how much you need to earn from video clip sales, affiliate commissions, tips, gifts, etc. in order to get to your desired income goal.

You may have heard the saying, "What you focus on expands", so take the time to focus on your earnings, find what's working, where you can improve and watch how things start to expand!

Sex Worker Pride: Our Purpose in Porn

Sex worker & mother: 'Yes, I AM empowered by my job.'
I cannot stand the uninformed and ignorant rant that sex work is not empowering or a real ‘choice’. I am going to put it in a very simple way:  I love sex. I f*cking LOVE it. I have loved it before I even knew what it was or that there was such a thing as the patriarchy. All I knew was that something down there felt really good.

This blog post by Eva Schless articulates the sentiment of many of us who work in the adult industry. (Thanks to @SinnamonLove for sharing it). It reminded me of the blog post from Airen Star about "How the General Population Views Women in the Sex Industry" and this article from XBiz that was posted the same week.

Female porn stars are psychologically happy and healthy according to a recent report published by the Journal of Sex Research.

I have had many clients just like Eva's. Ones who were shy because of their size, disabled, disfigured, taking care of an ill parent, recently divorced out in the desert serving our country (and he's divorced because his wife cheated on him and got pregnant while he was on deployment AND it turns out the first kid wasn't his either. Gotta support the Troops :).

As much as people think they know about the adult industry and people who work in it, we know we serve a purpose and fulfill a need for our clients and, yes, for ourselves too. We also know we are dynamic, intelligent and capable women. We are still mothers, sisters, aunties, teachers, artists, psychologists, spiritualists, atheists...and everything in between. Just like everybody else. There are broken people in all professions, and nobody is discounting the experience of sex work victims all over the world, who are being abused in the name of porn. That is our wound to heal and make right and we will. You don't have to like our choice of vocation, but please respect our hustle. ♥

WeCamGirls: The Community for Cam Models

Perhaps you have noticed the new banner for WeCamGirls.com under the header. Well, let this be your personal invitation to come over and check out the community. I've been hanging out over there for a few days now and I really enjoy the atmosphere. It has a very Facebook-like feel and offers all kinds of tools and resources for cam models. There's a forum, a chat room,  a "commercial profile" that you can use to promote your independent cam shows and cam site profiles, cam site reviews on more cam sites than I ever seen before, and even reviews of some cam studios. WeCamGirls.com also welcomes user submitted tips, articles, and useful links.

There's about 800 registered members on the site, everyone seems friendly and eager to help each other. So far I haven't seen any dramatic outbreaks. The creators and moderators of the site are very accessible and always open to our suggestions. I love racking up experience points and achievements, too. My only suggestion is when you create your username for the site, keep it short. I didn't read the disclaimer and my screen name, "1UniquePassion" got cut to "1UniquePassi" and once you submit your screen name you can't change it.

Be sure to add me as a friend when you get there! www.wecamgirls.com/users/1UniquePassi/

Know Your Worth: Wisdom from Venus

Resurrecting Venus by Cynthia Occelli       I love adding new books on the subject of personal development and spirituality to my library (or my iPod as I'm addicted to audio books). Lately, I've been reading "Resurrecting Venus: Embracing Your Feminine Power" by the beautiful Cynthia Occelli. I discovered Cynthia's message on her YouTube channel and immediately felt drawn to her. Since then, I've been able to connect with her via social media and realized we are indeed kindred spirits.

I'm always relating the books I read to being a webcam model and looking for ways in which a particular concept can be adapted to the webcam modeling experience. So when I read the following passages in "Resurrecting Venus" it instantly reminded me of a YouTube video I posted a while back about my total frustration with webcam models who are willing to do so much for too little.

Here's some wisdom from "Resurrecting Venus" translated into camgirl terms:

EVERYONE DESERVES FAIR PAY
"No one should work for less than the market value of her work. Check inside. Ask yourself, Should they? When I ask this question and it’s applied to anyone other than the person who is undercharging, they always say, “Of course not.” We all know there is something wrong with paying someone less than they deserve. Though some people feel like they've won something when they manage to under-pay, this is not the energy you want to put out to the Universe, unless you are ready to have it returned to you in spades."

Camgirl Translation: You are not doing anyone any favors by charging $.99/min for cam shows when the MARKET VALUE for a show is $3.99/min or more. If you put yourself on the discount rack, expect to attract discount minded customers.

PEOPLE VALUE WHAT THEY PAY FOR
"Paying for a product or service instills in the buyer an affirmative belief in the value of the purchase. People do not value what they get at a deep discount."

Camgirl Translation: Why do you think Maserati, Christian Louboutin, and other high end brands aren't advertising super discount sales every week? Could you imagine if every week Christian Louboutin was tweeting that you could get 30 pairs of red-bottoms for $30. Think about how fast the value and allure of owning these shoes would plummet? It seems like such an obvious concept, and yet, constantly cam models are on twitter running "a sale" on their clips and cam shows. ("Get all 30 of my clips for $5! WTH!?) Why should anyone pay full price, when they know all they have to do is wait until the end of the month and you'll discount everything anyway?

CHANGE YOUR PERCEPTION OF WHAT YOUR WORK OR PRODUCT IS WORTH
"Don’t make decisions out of negative programming or fear. Be objective. Whether you are employed by a company or run your own business, study three positions, businesses, or products that are similar to yours and make sure that your rates, salary, or prices are competitive. Update your research from time to time."

Camgirl Translation: This is why it's important for webcam models to have a reason why they want to get into this business that has nothing to do with money. If you are pricing yourself from the mindset of being desperate for money, then you are setting yourself up for failure. Any decision made from lack, limitation, not enoughness, fear or desperation will only result in a situation that causes you more lack, limitation, not enoughness, fear and desperation. You are not passing out burgers and fries here. A cam site is not meant to be the dollar menu. You are sharing your most intimate energy with others and that is very valuable. The sooner you know and start charging your worth, the sooner your pay will reflect as such.

You're So BORING! Tips for Being a Cam Girl Worth Watching

Are you looking for ways to keep the visitors that come to your chat room entertained? Have you ever found yourself staring at the chat screen, blank faced, with nothing to say? Remember if your bored than you're boring, and being a good webcam model means knowing how to keep the energy in your room inviting, engaging, and positive. One way to do this is by using quirky or fun questions to spark conversations between you and your audience.

Whenever you feel the energy in your room dragging or you're starting to yawn and feel sluggish, I dare you to make things interesting by asking each guy that enters your chat room if he will answer your question of the day! Cam girls get bombarded with questions all the time, so this is your opportunity to control the Q & A. Plus, if there's one thing men love to talk about, it's themselves. LoL!

Here's a list of  "21 Fun Questions to Ask Any Guy" and be sure to come up with some of your own fun questions. Avoid asking overly sexual questions as those are kinda expected and unoriginal. The point here is to be intriguing, not predictable. Focus on open ended questions that prompt your audience to tell you stories about themselves. You never know when a tidbit of info they share can be used to your advantage later. Some cam sites like Streamate, have a feature that allows you to take notes on each screen name that comes into your chat. Use this! The more you can remember about them, they more they will return to you.

Webcam models who make the most money are the ones who are the most engaging, entertaining and genuinely make an effort to know their audience. When it comes to being a successful cam model, this is where personality and attitude trumps outer beauty. No one likes a boring cam girl, even if she is beautiful.. Think about it, would you spend $3.99/min on someone who can't hold a conversation or isn't interested in getting to know you? Don't be boring, ask questions.

Webcam Models Petition XBiz Awards

Xbiz, adult porn star, webcam modeling, best cam site award finalist 2013
Congratulations to all the cam models who made the XBiz Award Nominee Finalist list and Happy Holidays to you. ♥

XBIZ is pleased to announce the finalist nominees for adult entertainment’s biggest industry awards show of the year, the 2013 XBIZ Awards, presented by Fleshlight, scheduled for Jan. 11 in Los Angeles.

There's only a few categories related to being a webcam model. Most are for cam/video sites, adult affiliate programs, and other IT  stuff.  In fact the, "Web Star of the Year" category, is the only one featuring ladies whom I know to make money being a cam girl.

We should get together and petition for more webcam modeling related categories in the "Web & Technology" section. Live chat cam sites are the boom right now in the adult industry, it would be nice to get a little more recognition for the contribution of hard working cam models all over the world.

What do you think?

Which categories would you like to see added to the XBiz Awards?

Leave your suggestion in the comment box below. ♥

Will being a cam girl affect my future career goals?

Q:  "I'm going to school for nursing, and I plan on eventually working towards my Doctorate in Nursing Anesthesia Practice, and I'm wondering if being a webcam model will have a negative impact on my getting into different training programs or getting hired at a hospital? What do you think? I need a professional's advice! I miss camming so much, I've just been apprehensive in starting back just because I don't know how it will impact my medical profession. My guess is that it wouldn't, but I'm not certain."

being a cam girl
A: Great to hear from you! In my personal professional opinion, there's no reason that being a webcam model or having worked in adult entertainment should affect your ability to do anything else you want to do in life. I am a registered mentor with my county's school board and I have a 16 year old mentee that I work with. I have been fingerprinted and background checked numerous times over the years, while still actively being a webcam model, because I do a lot of volunteer work. There's no space on applications asking, "Have you ever worked in the adult industry" and if I ever did come across such a question, my answer would be, YES, I did it. AND? so what? How does that affect my ability to be an effective whatever-it-is-I'm-aiming-to-do? Always be honest and proud of your work.

make money with webcamI have a big problem with people/employers/etc. that bully ladies who have worked in the industry, as if we are not also fully capable of doing other things. I'm equally annoyed with ladies who have worked in our industry who allow themselves to be bullied, shamed or try to downplay their adult work, as some "young and dumb life mistake". Chile please! Stand up for yourself. People will treat you however you allow them to treat you. If you don't make your work as a cam girl seem like some shameful secret, than no one else will be able to hold it over your head either.

I am working with an attorney to get an official, legal, point of view on this matter because it is a question I get quite often. My advice for right now is to stay focused on what you want to do, be that nursing, camming, or both...and don't let anyone stop you. ♥

Cam Model Marketing Part 4

In this video, you will learn about how to use YouTube as a marketing tool for your work as a webcam model. So many business people in general either totally dismiss using YouTube or they use it but do it all wrong. When using it to promote yourself as a webcam model, please recognize that YouTube isn't a web cam site and so it isn't the place to be posting videos of you half-naked, shakin' it fast and droppin' it like it's hot. That will only attract people who want to see you do more of that...for free.

After you watch the video for ideas on how to use this free marketing resource to your advantage, leave a comment below sharing what your first video will be about and include a link to your YouTube channel.

The Most Annoying Part of Being a Cam Girl

No matter how many times I see this video about the being a webcam model, I always bust out laughing. It's so incredibly sad, yet so incredibly true and that's what makes it so funny.

Let this be a lesson to any cam models who are new to the business or anyone who is considering working as a webcam model. You will get visitors in your chat who are as annoying as this guy.

In all seriousness, when you find yourself in a situation like this, the best thing you can do is keep your cool. Be assertive, but not bitchy. Remember that YOU are in control, it's YOUR room and YOU are the prize. Be sure to let your visitors know your expectations and the rules in your chat room. My room headline clearly states that the only thing free in free chat is the CHAT. So if you want to chat, let's chat, if you have any type of request, you must tip X amount or come into private (and don't be cheap with your X amount, this ain't the dollar menu!)

If you find yourself, getting worked up by your cam site's chat members, tell them so! Again you don't have to be bitchy, just be real, "Look, if you guys keep being disrespectful and begging for freebies, I will log off for the day, ban you from my room, report you to the site.." or whatever you want your consequence to be.  Just as our fellow cam model Spohie Moon stated in her post about "The Backwards Show", the fear of loss may be enough for your chat visitors to straighten up and fly right and the paying clients will respect you more for not being a desperate, pushover. Lastly, never be afraid to use the kick, block, or ban button.

Hope that helps your ass, bb. LoL

Camgirl Question: I want to be a webcam model but...?

Here is a question I got from an aspiring webcam model and I get this question quite often. I've included my reply, however, I'm interested to hear words of advice from other camgirls. Read the question and my reply below, and then leave your advice to this lady in the comment box.

I'm 21 years old. I'm from Puerto Rico and I want to become a webcam model, but there is a few things. Even if I'm comfortable with my body, I can't have nobody recognize who I am, it will damage my daytime career HUGE TIME, and I love my day career too. I also make YouTube videos related to my career, so I will need to be really careful. At first I was told I can wear a mask, but then I realize I can't. I don't know what to do! What tips can you give me to be a webcam model without looking like myself.”

The basic answer is some (but not all) cam sites allow the performer to block certain countries or regions from viewing her broadcast. Also, you can invest in some wigs and colored contacts, even though I don't think they really create so much of a dramatic change that you can't be identified by someone who really knows you. Furthermore, as I said in one of my channel videos, the only way people will find you is if, A) you tell them, or B) they are a visitor to the site you're on or other porn sites....in which case, how can they say anything to you? Isn't that the pot calling the kettle black?

“Second problem, I moved back with my parents because I can't afford living out anymore (this is why I need to become a webcam model), How do you do so your kid doesn't hear what you are doing, in my case my parents?”

The part I boldfaced and underlined is a huge red flag for me. You are basically saying you feel like you need to become a webcam model because of money or out of desperation for money. You have to have a reason for wanting to be in this business other than money. There will be days where you will make no or very little money and you will have to put in a lot of time & energy both on and off camera in order to make the money you do earn. If you don't have a non-money motivator, you will find yourself being inconsistent, getting defeated and giving up. I'm not saying that many don't get into the business for the money, but the ladies who make the most money and have the most fun doing it, are the models who do this because they truly enjoy it, want to do it, and don't care what anyone has to say about it.

As far as your living situation is concerned, you can cam at night when everyone is asleep, and use a microphone headset so that you don't have to be loud in order to be heard.

“The rest is ok with me, I have no problem getting naked or masturbating in camera. Please reply I'm really anxious about it! Thanks!”

I'd suggest that you look for a part time job in your daytime career field or a related field that won't cause you so much concern and feeling like you have to hide. Its awesome that you are a open and comfortable with yourself sexually, however, that doesn't mean being a webcam model is the best choice for you. If you still want to be a camgirl, please take time to watch all the videos on my YouTubechannel, so you can be fully aware of what this business entails and make an informed decision. Thank you for your questions and I hope this helps.

Lube Freebies for Camgirls

Many of you are probably familiar with the concept of Extreme Couponing. Well, I'm what I call a "freebie chaser". Clipping coupons isn't so much my style, however, I love to collect free samples and gifts. I've been doing it for about a year, and I love it because everytime I go to the mailbox it's like Christmas.

Anywho, I came across these two freebies for lube and of course, I had to pass it on to all you fellow cam models. This is our kind of freebie. I don't know how long these free sample offers will be available, so go and grab yours now.

Pink Intimate Lubricants and Sensual Wellness Free Sample

AstroGlide Lubricant Free Sample

The great thing about being a freebie chaser is that often times, the freebie sample comes with a coupon anyway. So I get to sample the product and save money if I decide to buy it.  ♥

Search & Win
For more great freebies, sign up and start earning Swagbucks. The $5 Amazon gift cards are the best bang for your bucks, IMO, and I've also cashed out for the Wal-Mart, iTunes, and SpaFinder gift cards.

How the General Population Views Women in the Sex Industry

I like to have the television on when I am at home even if I'm not watching it. Its kind of a quirky habit I have; using the TV as background noise while cleaning, doing my make-up (or in today's case, taking some photos). Dr. Drew had Dennis Hof, owner of The Moonlight Bunny Ranch, and his girlfriend on today's show and they were talking with women who wanted to work as prostitutes at the ranch.

What really caught my attention though, was the way Dr Drew talked to these women. How he called them desperate and told them they would regret it for the rest of their lives. I stopped what I was doing, sat down and felt the rage build up inside of me. No wonder society has such negative views against women in the sex industry. Every time we turn on our television some bigoted daytime television host is berating a woman for wanting to choose a career that will allow her to pay for school, feed her kids or put a down payment on a house. They talk down to them, telling them you could do so much better as if selling sex is a last resort for the hopeless and soulless, thus re-enforcing the idea that the sex industry is horrible and anyone in it is fucked up in some way and cannot work a regular job.

Sure, many women DO get into the industry out of desperation, but not all of us do. Some of us even enjoy it. I have worked various sex related jobs and I have never regretted any of it. In fact, I love what I do and do not feel bad or worthless over any of the choices I have made. I have the freedom to be myself, look however I want, be my own boss. I no longer have to smile and clench my teeth at a minimum wage job where over entitled customers yell in my face for something minute and pointless. Women in this industry are strong and smart. I know escorts and strippers who have their shit together more so than any of these close minded assholes that put them down and call them whores. I bet all those parents that were outraged at Sasha Grey for reading to their kids never once did a second of volunteer work or donated to a charity.

We don't want your pity. We don't need to be saved. Either accept us for the amazing people we are, or mind your own fucking business.

Camgirl Tip: The Backwards Show

Here is a great tip from webcam model, Sophie Moon
I think this is a great suggestion. Give it a try and leave a comment sharing your results!
This pretty awesome for the girls who use 'group' flavored camming sites like Cam4 and Chaturbate and you could maybe use it in Free Chat just with different tiers (it will make sense in a minute) starting at "panties and bra" instead of "masturbating with 2 toys"
I have learned something very interesting about psychology, which is this: Fear of loss is a stronger motivator than desire for gain. Based on this information, I have invented a new kind of public tipping show which I like to call "The Backwards Show" because it has a tendency to move backwards.
Most girls wait until they have met their goal, and then do what they have promised. However, I have found, that I earn more tips more rapidly by starting at the highest tier: masturbating with 2 toys. I promise to do so for only 10 minutes, while informing the viewers (through my goal text) that after 10 minutes, if I have not earned $20 in tips, I will take a toy away. After 10 minutes have passed and the goal hasn't been met, I retain the progress made (let's say $6 out of $20) while taking a toy away and resetting the goal. I then masturbate with one toy for 10 minutes, at which point, I take the toy away and start masturbating with fingers only, unless I reach my goal, at which point, I will add a toy.
Here are the tiers:
2 toys
1 toy
Finger touching
Naked
Bra off
Shorts off
Top off
Fully Clothed
(Secret tier #0: Offline [lol])
It really really works and I'm super proud of myself for thinking of it :D Guys fight to stay on the top tiers!
